Hospitals are supposed to be the ultimate backstop for us to receive health care if we are seriously ill, or injured.

But, despite the best efforts to keep harmful bacteria and other pathogens at bay, the Centers for Disease Control reports as many as 75,000 people a year die in the U.S. from hospital acquired infections.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports one South Coast hospital is enlisting the latest in technology to try to combat the dangerous problem.
