Charges have formally been filed against a Santa Barbara man accused of killing four members of his family.
Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce Dudley today announced four murder counts had been filed against Nicholas Holzer. The 45 year old man was accused to stabbing to death his parents, his two sons, and their dog at the family’s home Monday night.
Yesterday, Sheriff Bill Brown said that Holzer was the person who called 911 to alert deputies to the killings, and when they arrived, admitted committing them.
In addition to the four murder counts, Holzer is facing allegations of special circumstances, which could open the door to the death penalty. However, the DA hasn’t said yet whether she will pursue it in this case.
There’s also an animal cruelty charge, for the death of the dog.
He appeared in court today, but didn’t enter pleas, and his arraignment was continued until September 9th.
