A bill by a state senator from Santa Barbara intended to make sure there is no gender discrimination in public school sports programs is now on the governor’s desk for his consideration.

Senate Bill 1349 requires public, and secondary schools to report statistics on the number of boys, and girls who take part in sports programs.

The legislation authored by Democratic State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson of Santa Barbara, and passed by the state legislature requires that the numbers be posted on each school’s website.

Jackson says by shining light on the statistics, it will insure schools are complying with Title IX, the law which bans gender discrimination in sports.
