Five Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Football Players Arrested, Suspended Following Attempted Armed Robbery At Fraternity

Posted on Monday, August 11, 2014 2:11pm

Five members of the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo football team have been arrested, following what police say was an attempted armed robbery at a fraternity.

San Luis Obispo Police were called to the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity on the 200 block of California Boulevard at around 2:30 yesterday morning, where they say they saw a confrontation in progress.

They wrestled a man to the ground, and say they recovered a handgun.  A second man was arrested in a vehicle trying to leave the scene, and three others were later arrested.  All of them were identified as members of the Cal Poly football team.

University officials say they were suspended from the team, and all related activities.

The suspension comes less than three weeks before the Mustangs opening game of the season, versus New Mexico State August 28th.
