Lompoc Man Arrested After Tense Standoff On Central Coast

Posted on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 3:01pm

A Santa Barbara County man is facing false imprisonment, and assault with a deadly weapon charges in the wake of a standoff on the Central Coast.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Vandenberg Village area at around one this morning, by reports of a domestic violence incident.

Johnny Argel of Lompoc was identified as a suspect in the attack.

Deputies tracked the 38 year old man to the Lompoc home he shared with his 91 year old grandmother.

After he appeared with what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun, there was a tense standoff.

Argel agreed that his grandmother should leave the house, so she was helped out by deputies.

About 45 minutes later, the Lompoc man surrendered, and deputies discovered what appeared to be a handgun was a replica.
