The City of Santa Barbara has given final approval to sell some land to the locally based international aid agency Direct Relief International so it can build a new headquarters complex.

DRI is planning to build a new warehouse, and offices on the 6100 block of Hollister Avenue, near Santa Barbara Airport.  The Santa Barbara City Council approved an agreement which will allow DRI to buy between six and 8.5 acres of land, for a price tag between $6.5 and $8.5 million dollars, depending on the final development plans.

The city has been trying to do something with the property for years, with past proposals ranging from corporate offices for a company, to a Target store.
