Ventura Police say a man who was shot by officers after they say he went on a rampage with his truck, striking an officer, and multiple vehicles may have been under the influence of drugs, and alcohol at the time.

Clemente Zamarripa-Mata of Ventura is in stable condition at a hospital following the Sunday incident.

Police received a report just before 4 p.m. Sunday of a man driving a pickup truck at high speeds near the Ventura County Fairgrounds.

Officers a few blocks away spotted the truck, and stopped it near the intersection of Harbor Boulevard, and Figueroa Street.  Police say as an officer was talking to the driver, the 26 year old man suddenly drove backwards, hitting a stopped vehicle, and then accelerated forward, and hit an officer.

Other officers opened fire, wounding Zamarripa-Mata.  The truck slammed into some parked police motorcycles, and a fair shuttle bus with four people on board.  No one else was hurt.

The officer was treated at a local hospital, and later released.  Police say Zamarripa-Mata will face an attempted murder of a police officer charge, as well as other counts determined by the Ventura County District Attorney’s office.
