A man is in critical condition after being shot by Ventura Police, after officers say he went on a rampage with his pickup truck near the Ventura County Fair, striking a police officer, and several vehicles.
Just before 4 p.m. , Ventura Police received a call from Ventura County Fair security about a speeding truck trying to pass through several road barriers near the fairgrounds Garden Street entrance.
Police a few blocks away spotted the truck, and stopped it near the intersection of Harbor Boulevard, and Figueroa Street. Police say as an officer was talking to the driver, the man suddenly drove backwards, hitting a stopped vehicle.
He then accelerated forward, and hit an officer.
As the truck sped forward, officers opened fire, wounding the driver. The truck slammed into some parked police motorcycles, and an empty fair shuttle bus.
The man is listed in critical condition at the Ventura County Medical Center. His name hasn’t been released yet.
The officer was treated at a local hospital, and later released.
