A financially troubled theater company in Ventura County didn’t meet its August 1st fundraising goal, but it did well enough that it won’t fold, and will move ahead with a new season.
Cabrillo Music Theater was trying to raise $250,000 in an emergency fundraising effort.
Cabrillo officials said if they didn’t raise at least $200,000 of the goal by today, they would cancel the upcoming season, and return all pledges.
But, as of this afternoon, they had $211,000 committed.
Cabrillo officials say while they’ve raised enough to move ahead with a new season, they do need to reach the full goal, because of a drop in season ticket subscriptions, and rising theater costs.
There is a dance marathon fundraiser taking place tonight, and a fundraiser by Cabrillo alumni taking place in New York City Monday night.
The two decade old Thousand Oaks theater company is known for presenting classic, and cutting edge musicals.
