Special Olympics World Games Coming To California, With Santa Maria, Thousand Oaks Among Host Towns

Some communities in Ventura, and Santa Barbara Counties are among those taking part in the 2015 Special Olympics World Games, agreeing to act as host towns for some of the athletes.

Santa Maria and Thousand Oaks are among the cities which will serve as hosts for the Los Angeles based games next July, with more local communities expected to announce their involvement this week.

The host towns will hold special events for the international athletes, with community tours, picnics, and other celebrations.

7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches from 177 countries are expected for the Games, which will feature 15 Olympic style sports competitions at venues throughout Southern California.
