A key chunk of land in the Santa Monica Mountains has been purchased from film producer, and director James Cameron, in a move which will permanently protect it.

A combination of state, and Los Angeles County funds were used to buy the 700 plus acres of land in Puerco Canyon, which is between Malibu Creek State Park, and Corral Canyon Park.

The land is considered ecologically important, because it provides key habitat for mountain lions, bobcats, and other wildlife.

The purchase will allow the development of a key section of the 70 mile long Coastal Slope Trail, from Point Mugu Lagoon, to Topanga State Park.
