A former Ventura County Human Services Agency worker has been sentenced to four years in state prison for  misappropriating food stamps, and cash benefits for herself, and family members.

Prosecutors say Ana Maria Castro worked for the Human Services Agency for ten years as a clients benefits specialist.  They say the 38 year old Oxnard woman issued food stamps, and cash benefits in the names of some inactive, and non-existent clients.  Investigators say Castro also improperly provided CalFresh cards to some relatives.

She entered guilty pleas to the charges.  In addition to the four year jail sentence, Castro was also ordered to pay more than $250,000 in restitution.
