A dog at the center of controversy in Santa Barbara County died in an accident at the county’s Animal Shelter.
Kitti, a 12 year old Boxer/Put Bull/Terrier mix had been at the shelter since June 12th, after the dog attacked, and killed another dog.
On July 1st, the county held a hearing on the incident, and after testimony was reviewed, county officials decided Kitti met the definition of a dangerous dog, and should be euthanized.
The owners were trying to appeal the decision.
County Public Health Department officials say that while Kitti was normally kept in an isolated part of the shelter, yesterday an employee accidentally left a kennel gate open, along multiple dogs to have contact with each other.
Two dogs got into a fight with Kitti, killing the dog.
County officials say the accident was unacceptable, and are investigating what occurred, and will take disciplinary action if necessary.
