A Central Coast city has announced that it’s hired a new Police Chief.

The City of Lompoc says Patrick Walsh will become the community’s top cop later this year.

Walsh has three decades of law enforcement experience, and is currently a captain with the Portland, Oregon Police Department.

He’s been in Portland for more than two decades, where he’s had a variety of duties from overseeing the patrol division, to supervising the gang and SWAT units.

Before that, he was with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for eight years.

He’ll take over for Larry Ralston, who is retiring after serving as Lompoc’s chief for two years.
