South Coast City Going To Crack Down On Water Thieves

Posted on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 2:13pm

Law enforcement, and public works officials in one South Coast community are now on the lookout for water thieves.

Santa Barbara has had its three driest years on record, and the Santa Barbara City Council recently revised its municipal code to better describe what constitutes the theft of water.

Santa Barbara Police say they will work with the Public Works Department to cite people who steal water.

Those who illegally connect to fire hydrants, city water mains, or another account holder’s service line can be issued misdemeanor citations.
