The State will hold a public hearing in Santa Barbara County today on proposed new regulations to monitor, and regulate fracking, and other oil and gas well stimulation techniques.
The hearing will gather public comments developed on guidelines developed as the result of the passage of SB 4 last year.
The legislation authored by Democratic Senator Fran Pavley of Agoura Hills is intended to provide some oversight of the controversial process used to free trapped underground oil, and gas deposits. Some groups contend the proposals don’t go far enough to deal with potential pollution and water supply contamination concerns.
The hearing being held by the Division Of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources will take place at the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors hearing room in Santa Maria, from 4-7 p.m.
