Central Coast Man Enters Guilty Pleas To Workers Compensation Fraud

Posted on Friday, July 11, 2014 3:27pm

A Central Coast man who claimed he couldn’t work, or walk without assistance because of a work related injury is facing jail time after Santa Barbara County prosecutors say it was proven he was actually okay.

Javier Carranza of Lompoc entered guilty pleas to two counts of workers compensation fraud.

Officials became suspicious after the roofing company worker claimed he wasn’t getting better, despite years of medical treatment, and benefit payments.

Investigators taped him taking part in normal activities.

In addition to a three month plus jail sentence, and three years probation, Carranza has been ordered to pay more than $68,000 in restitution to the state, and the roofing company.
