The agricultural industry is booming in Santa Barbara County.
That’s according to the just released annual agricultural report for the county, which shows the industry had a production value of $1.4 billion dollars in 2013, up 10% from the year before.
Strawberries remained the county’s top crop. Wine grapes moved up from third place to second. Broccoli came in third, followed by lettuce and avocadoes.
While production was up overall as an industry, it was a rough year for avocados, with below average temperatures in early 2013, and the drought affecting the yield.
Agriculture remains the top industry in the county, employing more than 25,000 people.
