A Central Coast man who was a suspect in a carjacking is in custody, following a four hour long standoff.
It started at around 1:30 this morning, when a vehicle believed to have been carjacked in Santa Maria was spotted by law enforcement officers, leading to a chase which ended in Nipomo.
San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies say Mark Silva, Junior of Santa Maria crashed the stolen car into a fence, and ran into a home on the 200 block of Encino Lane. A woman, and child in the house were able to escape with the help of deputies. Because the 28 year old man refused to surrender, and was believed to be armed, a special enforcement team was called in to help.
Silva finally surrendered at around 5:30 a.m. and was arrested on multiple charges, including hit and run, false imprisonment, and resisting arrest.
