Posted on Monday, July 7, 2014 12:07am

A Central Coast boy is going to have an unforgettable experience at this year’s Major League Baseball All Star Game.

Carmelo Hernandez of Santa Maria is one of 24 national finalists who will take part in MLB’s Pitch, Hit, and Run competition in Minneapolis.  The 12 year old will represent the Los Angeles Dodgers at the festivities, and will get to participate in the Home Run Derby, shagging fly balls on the field as top major leaguers try to hit balls out of the ballpark.

Hernandez won a City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department contest, and advanced through different levels of competition to earn a trip to Dodger Stadium, where he won a spot at the All Star game activities.  The All Star game is Tuesday, July 15th at Target Field in Minneapolis.
