Authorities are trying to determine what caused the death of a 27 year old Ventura County jail inmate who collapsed in a cell at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention facility.
Oxnard Police arrested Juan Zavala Friday night on resisting arrest, and other charges. He was taken to the Ventura County Medical Center for treatment, and then after being cleared by hospital staff he was taken to the Pre-Trial Detention facility at around 10:30 p.m.
Detention officers say the 32 year old Oxnard man tried to kick a deputy, and was placed in a cell for constant monitoring, because they say he should signs of being under the influence of drugs. At around 2:45 Saturday morning, they noticed something wrong with Zavala, and started emergency treatment. He was taken to a hospital, where he died 12 hours later.
