A Costco store on the Central Coast is open again at this hour, but it had to be evacuated, and closed for a few hours today due to a chemical leak.
A crew was working on the air conditioning system of the Santa Maria store just after 10 this morning when a worker accidentally sheared some bolts off of the unit, causing a freon link.
The store’s employees started evacuations.
About 200 people were evacuated from the store, which is on the 1300 block of South Bradley Road.
The only one who was injured was the air conditioning worker, who was treated at the scene for exposure to the gas.
