A controversial initiative to ban fracking, and other high intensity petroleum operations in Santa Barbara County now has an official ballot designation.
The initiative will appear on the November ballot as Measure P.
Members of a group called Santa Barbara County Water Guardians raised the signatures need to qualify the proposal for the ballot. Earlier this month, County Supervisors looked at the proposal, and held a public hearing which had hours of testimony on both side of the proposal. They had the option of adopting it as an ordinance, or putting it on the ballot, and decided on the latter move.
Measure P calls for limits on the future use of fracking, stem injection, and other high intensity petroleum operations in the county.
