An autopsy shows a heroin overdose was the cause of death for a San Luis Obispo County jail inmate.
Timothy Richard Janowicz was found unresponsive in his jail cell on May 30th, and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
The autopsy results show that in addition to the heroin overdose, the 29 year old man had coronary artery disease, with a 90% blockage in one of his main arteries which contributed to his death.
The Sheriff’s Department is now trying to determine how Janowicz, who was a transient, was able to get heroin while in the jail. The department was already in the process of obtaining a digital security screening system which can be used to help find contraband.
