New Legislation Proposed To Ban Oil Drilling On State Controlled Portion Of Ridge Off Santa Barbara County Coastline

Posted on Friday, June 20, 2014 3:42pm

A State Senator from Santa Barbara County has introduced legislation to try to ban offshore oil drilling in an area off the Santa Barbara County coastline which is currently without state protection.

In 1994, the state approved protection for some state controlled areas off the coastline, but an area known as Tranquillon Ridge wasn’t included.

Part of the ridge in federal waters has already been drilled, but a bill by Democratic Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson of Santa Barbara proposes closing the loophole for state managed areas of the ridge.
