Ventura County Gym Hit By $6 Million Dollar Court Judgement

Posted on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 2:17pm

A Ventura County gym has been hit by a six million dollar judgement, after a judge found that it made it difficult for people to end their contracts, and engaged in a number of improper practices.

Ventura County prosecutors say Body Shaping Gyms, which had the Gold’s Gym franchise in Oxnard, had a long pattern of collecting money on illegal, and void contracts, charging credit cards without permission, and charging members excess fees.  Body Shaping Gyms was owned, and operated by Noel Thompson.

Anyone who thinks they may have been affected by the gym’s business practices can file a claim with the DA’s office.  However, since the gym filed for bankruptcy in December, it’s unclear how much money may be available for the settlement.  The company lost its rights to be a Gold’s Gym franchisee, and is now being operated as “Powerhouse Gyms” under the supervision of a bankruptcy court.
