KCLU was a big winner in the 2013 AP Broadcast Awards competition, winning more awards for broadcast news excellence than anyone else in its division in the Western United States, and continuing its decade long run as Ventura and Santa Barbara County’s most honored local broadcast News Department.

KCLU’s Jim Rondeau and Lance Orozco were honored for “Best Live Coverage,” “Best Spot News Story”  and “Best Use Of Sound” for their work on the massive May, 2013 Springs Brush Fire in Ventura County.

KCLU’s coverage of the Amgen Tour of California won for “Best Sports Reporting,” and a piece on the emotional visit of a World War Two bomber to Camarillo won for “Best Light Feature.”

KCLU News Director Lance Orozco won the award for Pat Davis Reporter of the Year in Division 2 (Small Stations) in the Western U.S. for the seventh time.
