Investigators Trying To Determine Cause Of Fatal Weekend Plane Crash On Central Coast

Federal investigators are trying to determine the cause of a light plane crash on the Central Coast which left two men dead.

A single engine Piper Cub crashed shortly after takeoff around 10 a.m. Saturday from a private airstrip on the 5100 block of Vineyard Drive in Templeton.

Witnesses told San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies that the plane took off, and banked to the right, and kept turning into it spiraled into the ground.  The pilot and a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.  They’ve been identified as 82 year old Robert Berg, of Paso Robles, and 66 year old John Warren, also from Paso Robles.

The National Transportation Safety Board, and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash.
