It was an effort to try to prevent drugs, and weapons from being smuggled into the Ventura County Jail.
The Sheriff’s Department banned people from sending items in envelopes to the jail, instead requiring correspondence to take place via post cards.
But, it led to a court battle over its constitutionality.
KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports that a federal judge overturned the county’s post card rule, and now the county has to decide whether it will appeal.
