Central Coast City Thinking Twice About Allowing Fireworks On Fourth Of July

Posted on Monday, June 2, 2014 3:30pm

In the wake of a major brush fire which threatened hundreds of homes, a Central Coast city is thinking twice about allowing so-called “safe and same” fireworks for the Fourth of July.

The Lompoc City Council last year narrowly decided to allow the sale of fireworks for this July.  But, the Miguelito Fire, which caused a big scare when it burned about 700 acres of brush on the outskirts of Lompoc a few weeks ago, is prompting some City Council members to say the dry brush may mean it’s too hazardous this year to allow home fireworks.  The City’s Fire Chief is calling for a total ban for this summer.

The City Council is set to talk about the concern when it meets tomorrow night.
