Proponents of a proposed ban in Santa Barbara County on the controversial oil, and gas industry practice of fracking gathered enough verified signatures to place it on the November ballot.
A group called the Santa Barbara County Water Guardians collected the more than 16,000 signatures.
The initiative calls for a ban on land uses related to fracking, steam injunction or other high intensity petroleum operations in unincorporated parts of the county. It wouldn’t affect traditional oil, and gas drilling practices. Santa Barbara County Supervisors now have to act on the proposal, either putting it on the November ballot, or outright adopting it.
