The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department says it’s kicked off its 2014 marijuana eradication season.

Department officials say that last year, they found that a large number of the grows were found on public land in back country areas, and that many were tended by Mexican nationals sent to the region by drug cartels.

Narcotics investigators say they will once again use aircraft to try to spot illegal marijuana grows.  They’re also asking for the public help in spotting suspicious activity, like people carrying gardening supplies into public land, and packing large amounts of supplies not generally associated with backpacking, or hiking.
