Bars in one Central Coast City are being asked to end a tradition of opening early on graduation weekend for a local university, because of problems caused by intoxicated students.
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo officials, and San Luis Obispo’s mayor jointly sent a letter to the city’s downtown business association, asking for their help.
In the letter, the officials say that intoxicated students have disrupted what is supposed to be a special day for graduates, and families.
The letter says while officials understand they are asking a lot, they are hoping businesses will consider the request.
Cal Poly’s commencement ceremonies begin at 9 a.m. on June 14th and 15th.
In the past, some bars would open as early as 6 a.m. for pre graduation pub crawls.
