Seven people were injured in a disturbance at a state hospital on the Central Coast.
The Department of State Hospitals just released word of the Tuesday night incident at Atascadero State Hospital.
Department spokesman Ken August says two patients tried to incite other patients at the mental health facility by shoving around furniture. Some staff members tried to stop the two patients, but the duo, as well as a third patient charged the staff.
Police used pepper spray to break up the resulting fight.
One police officer suffered two broken ribs in the struggle, and a second is being treated for a possible torn muscle. The other five injuries are reported to be minor.
The three patients were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy, assault, battery, and resisting an officer.
