Death Of Oxnard Man No Longer Being Called Homicide; Now Ruled Self Defense

Posted on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 12:21am

The death of an Oxnard man which was originally being called a homicide is now being called an accident, and a case of self defense.

On January 26th, police were called to the 100 block of South C Street, by reports of a fight, and an injured man.  They found 66 year old Alexander Ramirez on the ground, with a head injury.  The Oxnard man was taken to a hospital, where he died March 5th.

Detectives eventually identified a possible suspect for the incident, but when they questioned him, they say they found out that Ramirez had walked up to the other man, and punched him.  The man struck back in self defense, and Ramirez fell to the ground, and hit his head.  Detectives, and Ventura County prosecutors reviewed the case, and determined charges wern’t justified.
