Special Parking Meters Allow People To Make Donations To Help Homeless In Central Coast City

A program intended to reduce panhandling, and help the homeless in one Central Coast community is allowing people to make donations via some special parking meters.

Seven specially marked meters have been set up in the downtown San Luis Obispo area to accept donations.

The San Luis Obispo Downtown Association, the City of San Luis Obispo, and the United Way of San Luis Obispo County are working together on what’s called the “Change For Change” program.

The idea is to discourage panhandling, and at same time give people who want to help those on the streets a way to make a donation they know won’t end up being used for alcohol, or drugs.

Money raised will go to the Prado Day Center.
