Posted on Thursday, April 24, 2014 5:21pm

Autopsy, and toxicology results show that a transient who collapsed shortly after being taken into custody by police on the Central Coast, and died at a hospital had a methamphetamine induced heart attack.

Josey Richard Meche was arrested after a run-in with San Luis Obispo Police March 12th.  He was taken to the County Jail, where he was booked.

San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department officials say about an hour later, jail deputies found him on the ground of his cell.  He was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later.

The 28 year old man had filed a lawsuit against San Luis Obispo Police weeks before his death.

The suit stemmed from his arrest in March of 2013, on charges he threw an object at a vehicle, and resisted arrest.  Meche claimed he was abused by officers after he was taken into custody.
