Santa Barbara County voters are going to be asked to approve a tax hike on visitors to the county.
Santa Barbara County Supervisors approved a proposal to ask the county’s voters in November to increase the bed tax from 10%, to 12.5%.
The bed tax, which is officially known as the Transient Occupancy Tax, is a fee added to motels, and hotels in the county.
The increase would generate about a million dollars more a year for the financially strapped county.
The tax hike would apply to motels, and hotels in unincorporated parts of the county. Cities like Santa Barbara and Solvang have already been charging 12% bed tax.
