The governor denied the parole of a young man who as a teenager beat to death an 87-year-old Central Coast man to death with a skateboard.
Prosecutors say in 2005, Robert Holguin attacked Gerald O’Malley in the military veteran’s mobile home on the outskirts of San Luis Obispo.
The then 13 year old boy then got a padlock, and locked the mobile home while the man bled to death.
Holguin has been housed at Patton State Hospital.
The California Juvenile Parole Review Board ruled that the now 22 year old man was ready for release, but citing disturbing writings, the governor decided to block the release.
Under state law, Holguin can only remain in custody until he’s 25.
