Authorities are investigating the death of a young man in Santa Barbara High School’s pool.
The high school’s swim team was practicing this morning when a former student joined them in the pool, for a workout.
When he didn’t come up to the surface, lifeguards pulled him from the pool, and began CPR.
He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is pending.
Santa Barbara School District officials identified him as Nicholas Johnson, a former member of the school’s water polo team, and graduate of the high school’s class of 2012.
There were only a few students on campus at the time because it’s spring break, but the school is planning to make counseling available for those who need it when classes resume next week.
