After a marathon hearing which lasted for more than 12 hours over two days, the Ventura County Planning Commission has narrowly rejected a proposal for a facility to house tigers in the county.
The Commission rejected the proposal on a 3-2 vote this afternoon.
Animal trainer Irena Hauser and her sister, Sophia had applied for a permit to build a facility for up to five rare white tigers which are used for photo, and film shoots. The proposed site is 19 acres of land on the 11000 block of Pacific View Avenue, in what’s known as the Deer Creek area
Hundreds of people were on hand for the hearings, with many neighbors objecting to the plans, saying they’re concerned about the potential for tigers to escape, and cause a safety threat. But, the debate may not be over, with the applicants having ten days to appeal the decision to Ventura County Supervisors.
