Santa Barbara County Supervisors Vote To Try To Keep Controversial Revetments In Place To Protect Goleta Beach, Park From Ocean

Posted on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 12:59am

It’s one of the South Coast’s most popular beaches, and parks, attracting about 1.5 million visitors a year.

But, Goleta Beach County Park has also been a source of tension between Santa Barbara County, and the State Coastal Commission.

More than a decade ago, the County received permission from the Commission for emergency revetments to prevent the ocean from eroding the beach, and park, but also had to come up with a long term management plan.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports hundreds of people were on hand as Santa Barbara County Supervisors acted on the controversial issue.
