A water company in Ventura County is looking at what action it may take next after a court rejected its legal challenge to an effort by a public agency to take over its water system.
The Casitas Municipal Water District is spearheading an effort to use eminent domain to buy out the Golden State Water Company’s system in Ojai. The action was prompted by some upset Ojai residents, who say Golden State’s rates are excessive. It led to a special election, in which residents said they were willing to pay for efforts to buy out, or attempt a legal takeover and purchase of the system.
Golden State claimed in court that the use of a community services district was not the proper venue for an eminent domain takeover, but a judge rejected that argument.
The company has told KCLU news it isn’t interested in selling.
