Authorities Now Identifying Man Killed, Woman Seriously Injured On Hike In Santa Barbara County

Posted on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 2:37pm

A man who was killed, and a woman who was seriously injured during a hike in Santa Barbara County’s mountains are now being identified as Ventura residents.

Brendan Michael Vega, and Saylor Guilliams were on Cold Springs Trial, near Tangerine Falls Sunday.   When it started to get dark, they tried to use their cell phone flashlights to reach safety.  They fell multiple times, injuring themselves in the process.

Guilliams broke both of her ankles, and her wrist, and Vega broke his arm.  A little while later, the 22 year old man left Guilliams to go get help, but fell about 20 to 30 feet down a rocky ledge, and died.

At about 10:30 Monday morning, some hikers spotted the young man’s body, and called 911.  It wasn’t until 4 p.m. Monday that yet another group of hikers stumbled across the injured young woman, and called for help.   The 22 year old woman was airlifted to a hospital by helicopter.
