A new Grand Jury review of jail facilities in Santa Barbara County shows that they are all generally well operated and maintained, with the exception of the long running overcrowding problem at the Main Jail.
The new report says a number of past issues identified with the court holding facility in Santa Barbara, the Santa Maria Station, and at the Coroner’s Bureau have been identified, and addressed.
The overall jail overcrowding problem has been the focus of Grand Jury reports in the county for decades.
However, with a new jail under construction in Santa Maria, the latest report notes that the county is working on the problem.
The first phase of the new complex is expected to open in 2018.
