A man convicted of shooting a CHP officer on the Central Coast has been sentenced to more than 60 years behind bars.

Clifford Scott of San Diego led a CHP officer on a car chase through Paso Robles, and then crashed into a tree.  The officer called for the 24 year old man to surrender, but Scott opened fire with a handgun.  The officer was hit multiple times, but returned fire, hitting Scott seven times.

The officer recovered from the shootout, and has returned to duty.

Scott was convicted of a half dozen crimes, including attempted murder, leading to yesterday’s sentencing.
