A Ventura County based university has received the largest scholarship endowment in its history.
California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks is getting a nearly $4.7 million dollar gift from the estate of John Manken.
He was an educator for more than 40 years who died in 2012, at the age of 89.
Mankin was an only child who never married, and no descendants, so he decided he wanted to leave his estate to help college students who wanted to become educator, or who are studying math, physics, or religion.
The endowment from the USC graduate will allow the CLU to provide about $240,000 in new scholarships each year.
