Arizona Police Say They Make Arrest in Three Decade Old Murder Of Santa Barbara County Man

Posted on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 3:08pm

An arrest has been made in the more than three decade old murder of a Santa Barbara County man.

Arizona Police say they used fingerprints to link Robert Resendez of Medford, Oregon to the August, 1981 shooting death of Jerry Heath in Yuma County, Arizona.

Investigators believe the 51 year old Lompoc man was killed after stopping to pick up Resendez, who was hitchhiking.

Detectives used some fingerprints lifted from Heath’s car to link the Oregon man to the murder, using a computer database to make the match.

Resendez, who is now 73, will face extradition to Arizona where he will stand trial.
