Some freeway on and off-ramps at a normally busy South Coast interchange will be closed for the next year, with work underway on a major rebuilding project.
The southbound 101 on and off-ramps at Los Carneros Road, in Goleta closed today.
The project will replace the existing crossing with a new, wider structure with dedicated bike, and pedestrian crossing areas, and expanded 101 Freeway on ramp lanes. It’s expected to take about 20 months, with the work costing about $8.5 million dollars.
While the work is underway, traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction over the bridge. The bridge will be replaced one side at a time, so it won’t have to be completely closed.
Motorists trying to access Santa Barbara Airport, UCSB, or area businesses will need to use the Storke Road, or Fairview Avenue interchanges.
