Marathon Hearing On Controversial Proposal To House Tigers In Ventura County Continues

Posted on Thursday, February 13, 2014 3:01pm

A day long hearing on a controversial proposal to set up a facility to house tigers in Ventura County is continuing at this hour.

Hundreds of people are on hand for a Ventura County Planning Commission hearing on the issue.

A property owner has proposed keeping up to five white tigers in cages on 19 acres of land in the Deer Creek Canyon area, close to the Ventura-Los Angeles County line.

The property’s owners provide exotic animals for movie, and television production.  The proposal calls for the fully enclosed cages to be surrounded by a security fence on the Pacific View Road site.

However, some nearby homeowners are upset with the proposal, saying it creates too much of a risk should one, or more of the big cats escape.
